Color Trends for 2021

Updated: Jan 27, 2021

It should come as no surprise that the colors of 2021 are meant to evoke feelings of calm and security.

After a very trying 2020, everyone looked to 2021 to be anything but the same. And since we are only a few weeks into 2021, there is no way to know how this year will treat us, but we can prepare for the year we want.

And that is what many paint companies are doing for us. Paint and design companies are gearing us up for a different kind of year.

Color Trends for 2021

Sherwin Williams' color of the month for January 2021 is Urbane Bronze. They decided to kick off the new year with a color that they describe as striking “moody and mellow balance with the bold musings of dark bronze” and a “nurturing color.”

Meanwhile, Behr has released its palettes of 2021. The colors and names of these palettes are meant to do the same as the Urbane Bronze-relax and soothe.

Behr’s palettes are:

  • Casual Comforts featuring light and neutral colors.

  • Calm Zone featuring blues and greens.

  • Subtle Focus which they describe as being made up of “soft, gentle hues.”

  • Quiet Haven filled with rich colors

  • Optimistic View is filled with bright and sunny colors

Pantone, the leading authority on color, released their color combo of the year as well. A bright yellow called Illuminating with a calm gray called Ultimate Grey. This color combo is meant to signal hope and strength.

Benjamin More went with a soothing and soft color for 2021. Aegea Teal is a blue-green with grey undertones. It offers the tranquility of nature but staying modern. Hannah Yeo, Benjamin Moore’s color marketing and development manager suggests this color “creates natural harmony and invites us to take a moment to reflect and reset.”

2021 has just begun. And while it is true we cannot control everything about this year, we can create a small sanctuary for ourselves and our families.
